NEET Counselling Process

Neet Counselling Process

NEET counselling Registration process

The registration process is the first and most crucial step in NEET UG counselling. Only candidates who qualify NEET can register for counselling to secure a seat in MBBS, BDS, or other allied courses. Registration is done online through official portals.

During registration, candidates must:

  • Fill in personal and academic details like a Register using your NEET roll number, DOB, and other basic details.
  • Upload required documents.
  • Pay the counselling registration fee and security deposit.

Successful registration allows the candidate to participate in choice filling, seat allotment, and admission rounds.

Choice Filling and Locking

After completing registration for NEET UG counselling, candidates must go through the Choice Filling and Locking stage. This is where you select and prioritize the medical or dental colleges and courses (e.g., MBBS, BDS) you wish to apply for.

You can:

  • Choose from the list of participating institutes based on your eligibility.
  • Rearrange the order of preferences multiple times before locking. Before locking candidates can change their choices.
  • Lock your final choices before the deadline to confirm your preferences. After locking choices  an not be modified.

If you don’t lock your choices, the system may automatically consider your last saved preferences—but this is risky. Locked choices are final and used in the seat allotment process. So candidates lock your choices.

Seat Allotment

The Seat Allotment stage is the outcome of your registration, choice filling, and NEET rank. In this phase, the counselling authority (like MCC for All India Quota) uses a computerized process to assign seats based on:

  • NEET 2025 rank
  • Category (GEN, OBC, SC, ST, etc.)
  • Choices you filled and locked
  • Seat availability in preferred colleges

Once the allotment is done, results are published online, and candidates can download their allotment letter. If you’re satisfied, you must report to the allotted college within the given time to complete admission formalities. Seat allotment results are published online.

Result Declaration & Downloading Allotment Letter

After the seat allotment process is complete, the NEET counselling authority officially announces the seat allotment result. Candidates can check their allotment status by logging into the counselling portal.

If you are allotted a seat:

  • If you get a seat, you can download the allotment letter, which contains details like your assigned college, course, and reporting instructions.
  • This letter is mandatory for reporting to the allotted institute for admission.

If no seat is allotted, you can participate in the next round of counselling or modify your choices accordingly. Check the reporting time and document list for the college.

Reporting to the Allotted College

Once a candidate is allotted a seat and has downloaded the allotment letter, the next crucial step is reporting to the allotted medical or dental college. This process involves physically visiting the college within the specified time frame to:

  • Visit the college within the specified time. Verify documents.
  • Carry original documents + copies.
  • Pay the admission fees
  • Confirm your admission

Failure to report on time may lead to cancellation of the allotted seat. Candidates should carry both original documents and photocopies, as well as the allotment letter and payment receipt.
